Privacy policy

What we collect when you play Split the Win, why, and what you can do about it.

1. Who we are

Split the Win is run by [Your company name], [Street address, City, State ZIP] ("we"). Questions about your privacy: [contact@yourdomain.com].

2. What we collect

• What you give us when you sign up: a username, your email address, your date of birth and your state. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash that nobody, including us, can read.
• Your play: your picks, points, results, leagues and drawing entries.
• Technical details: your IP address (used to stop repeated wrong passwords and abuse, and kept briefly in server logs) and your browser type. When you sign up or log in, we also keep a coded fingerprint (not the address itself) of your IP address and of a random ID stored in your browser, so we can spot one person running several accounts, which the Official Rules don't allow.
• Notifications, if you turn them on: an address from your browser's push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft) that lets us send notifications to that device, and the kind of device it is.
• Cookies and similar: one cookie that keeps you logged in, one that recognizes your browser to prevent duplicate accounts, and a few settings saved in your browser (for example, that you dismissed a notification offer). We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
• Prize winners: to pay a prize we may need your name, a payment address (such as a PayPal account) and, for larger prizes, tax information (IRS Form W-9). We collect these directly from winners, outside the site.

3. How we use it

• To run the game: your account, your picks, the leaderboards, leagues, the weekly contest and drawing.
• To check eligibility for prizes (age and state), and to stop fraud, cheating and multiple accounts.
• To email you about your account: confirming your email, resetting your password, security notices, and prizes you win. We don't send marketing email.
• To send the notifications you turned on, which you can change or turn off at any time.
• To meet legal and tax obligations.

4. What others can see

Your username, and how you're doing (points won, record, entries), appear on leaderboards, league pages and winners lists. Your public profile shows your record, stats, badges, streak and picks on games that are over (never picks on games still to be played). Recent picks on a game are shown without names. Your email, date of birth and state are never shown to other players.

5. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We share it only with:

• Service providers who help run the site (hosting, sending email, delivering notifications), only to do that work for us.
• Authorities, when the law requires it, or to protect players or the site from fraud or harm.
• A buyer of the business, if Split the Win is sold, under this policy.

Prize sponsors don't get your contact details unless you agree.

6. How we protect it

Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes. Email addresses and dates of birth are stored encrypted, with the key kept separately from the database. The site uses HTTPS, and one-time links we email you expire.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your details while your account is open. When you delete your account, your email, date of birth, state, notification settings and league memberships are removed right away. Picks you made stay in their pots without your name, because other players' results depend on them, and we keep records of prizes paid as long as tax law requires.

8. Your choices and rights

• Change your email or password, and turn notifications on or off, on your account page.
• Delete your account yourself, from the same page.
• Ask for a copy of your information, or to correct it, by emailing [contact@yourdomain.com].
• Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under state privacy laws. Email us and we'll help.

9. Children

Split the Win is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if we learn we have, we delete it.

10. Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and, for important changes, tell you by email or on the site before they take effect.
